What’s your best conference advice?

“Do NOT sit at lunches with people you know locally.”

“Make sure you take the time to meet as many people as you possibly can.   Come with an open mind on ways to improve your individual office.”

“Overwhelmed at the vague prospects of “networking” and “mingling”? Reach out before the conference to email contacts and friends of friends so that you don’t feel quite as lost. Last year, I made a friend when I searched out another person who looked lost. We hung out all morning and are still in touch!”

“Really look at the sessions and go to what YOU are interested in, not just what might be best for your organization.  I’ve gone to a couple of sessions where I thought the session would be good for my organization and I learned absolutely nothing.  The sessions that sounded interesting to me, I’ve used a lot of the things I learned in my work.  I would also recommend not being afraid to mingle.  For me, INTIX is really about making connections.”

“Find a box office that is similar to yours and ask them how they tackle problems you face.  As much as we think we are all unique and have own challenges – somebody else is doing something similar.”

The BOMRs who told us their going to the INTIX conference are…

  • Bernie Berry, WolfTrap
  • Tammy Enright, Washington Nationals
  • Joy Johnson, University of Maryland, Performing Arts
  • Caroline Martin. University of Maryland, Performing Arts (First INTIX Conference!)
  • John Moreland, Richmond International Raceway

And the facebook event for the conference tells me Chad Sands from Strathmore and David Sher from Tickets That Matter will also be there. Will you be there? Any advice to share? Drop a line in the comments!
